The purpose of the Jake and Travis Arms of Life Fund is to honor the lives of Jake and Travis Findley, raise funds for railroad crossing upgrades and implement railroad crossing safety and education programs within our school systems.

Jake and Travis lost their lives on February 3, 2007 when the SUV they were riding in collided with a train on Stones Crossing Road in Greenwood, Indiana.  This crossing at the time did not have flashing lights or cross arms to warn drivers of an oncoming train.

Due to the collaborative effort of our community and surrounding communities, local and state government and the thousands of students in the Center Grove school system and neighboring school systems, more than $750,000 has been raised and three crossings have been upgraded with flashing lights and cross arms.  Stones Crossing, Olive Branch and Smokey Row crossings were all upgraded in April, 2008.  Plans for a fourth crossing are currently being reviewed to determine the best scenario due to current development and construction.  This will help protect hundreds of school buses, thousands of school children and our community in general who use these railroad crossings every day.

The Arms of Life foundation is a prime example of how a community working together with public and private sectors can accomplish amazing things and triumph over tragedy.
